Occasionally we find chipmunks opossums birds and snakes.
If you hear it at night primarily it is either mice raccoons bats or in some cases a flying squirrel.
The animals that are most likely to be living in your attic are squirrels and raccoons.

Most commonly homeowners and cottage owners will become aware of a potential critter in the attic from hearing noises above the ceiling.
The one exception is the nocturnal flying squirrel.
Clues to help you figure out what kind of animal it is include what time of day or night you are hearing the most activity what kind of noises you are hearing and what signs.
Most of the time the animals will crawl down a dark wall or under insulation or in the shadows and stay super still.
They are the southern flying squirrel and eastern gray squirrel.
